Machine made rug or carpetMachine-made rugs and carpets are produced on powered looms, controlled either by hand, by machine, or by computer. They come in most any construction form, from tufted to flat-woven or braided. However, majority of machine made rugs and carpets belong to the tufted variety. The second most popular machine construction is weaving, which is somewhat more expensive, but less likely to snug or run than a tufted rug/carpet. Due to more robust backing, woven rugs and carpets also require less pile weight for similar performance. Rugs and carpets woven on sophisticated modern machines are Velvet, Axminster, Wilton Woven and Wilton Side Woven (or Knitted). The main difference is that the former two have cut pile with lose ends, while the other two have it twisted and/or looped, making them in general more resilient and durable. The more sophisticated machine, the better quality rug or carpet produced. Best machine-made rugs approach the level of pattern intricacy and color richness previously reserved only to a quality hand-knitted rugs. However, due to less time required for the production, as well as regular use of less expensive, synthetic materials, they usually cost less. Most of machine-made rugs and carpets on the market come from industrialized countries, like U.S.A., Belgium or Italy, in particular those made by modern computerized machines. Quality, availability, wide assortment and competitive pricing have made machine-made rugs and carpets very popular. They come in nearly any pattern style imaginable, from traditional oriental to contemporary or ultra-modern. — Carpet and rugs terminology - This sounds like a school class - but this is the one you don't want to miss.
